The Star Wars Extended Universe books

Post by The Pussycat on Tue Feb 03, 2009 2:37 pm

So as a fan of Star Wars I have over the years read a few of the Extended Universe books. So far I have only read the Post Return of the Jedi books as I'm more interested in reading about Han and Leia's lives (big surprise). Right now I am in the middle of the "Thrawn trilogy" which were the first Star Wars books to be written, other than ANH, ESB, and ROTJ. So far they have been the most awesome of the books. These would have been great as episodes VII VIII and IX, but since they take place 5 years after ROTJ it would be impossible to make them with the original cast and we all know that nobody would accept anyone but Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamil as the main players. The story is very suspenseful and holds the reader's attention very well.

Star Wars books that I have read or am currently reading or will be reading in the near future:

The Truce At Bakura (Immediately after Return of the Jedi)
The Courtship of Princess Leia (4 years after)
The Thrawn Trilogy (5 years after):
The Heir to the Empire (first part of the trilogy, haven't read because its on order)
Dark Force Rising (second part, couldn't wait for the first book so I decided to read it)
The Last Command (third part: reading now)
Children of The Jedi (8 years later)
Planet of Twilight (9 years later)
The Hand of Thawn series (15 years after Jedi 19 after ANH)
Specter of the Past (Part I)
Vision of the Future (Part II, have not read yet but will soon).

Favorite character in the EU books:
Mara Jade; she was the Hand of the Emperor and wishes to kill Luke Skywalker (although in later books that I have not read yet, she marries him).

Least Favorite character in the EU books:
Fey'lya I cannot stand the Bothan.

For episodes VII VIII and IX George already has a vision.
It was in an interview that was on the VHS tapes of the special edition (late 90īs) where I think he says that he had penned an outline for a big story. Divided in several chapters and he decided to make the middle one first, ep IV.

So there must be an outline for VII VIII and IX. He also already said that those last 3 would never happen... yeah right...

Yeah I've seen an outline for the last three episodes.....It has Leia and Han's twins Jaina and Jacen and Luke's son Ben in it.....but for some reason it leaves out Anakin Solo, the youngest of Han and Leia's. Maybe he intends to make the movies after Anakin died but that would also mean no Chewie since he was killed off in the book Balance Point, sorry if you didn't know that but yes George let someone kill off the great Chewie. I think if George sees that his profits from all the star wars junk starts declining....maybe he'll decide to make the last trilogy (I hope).....he knows that there is a want for it....plus I bet if it were offered at least Carrie and Harrison would do it...I don't know about Mark because I've heard that he was trying to distance himself from all the star wars stuff.

I can now add Tatooine Ghost by Troy Denning to the list of Books I have read....it's a nice filler book that takes place between The Courtship of Princess Leia and Heir to the Empire. Of course the book is all Han and Leia so it make it all the better Smile Right now I am reading Shadows of the Empire by Steve Perry, wich takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of The Jedi
