Author, Author!
A writer and nothing else: a man alone in a room with the English language, trying to get human feelings right. ~John K. Hutchens, New York Herald Tribune, 10 September 1961
The purpose of a writer is to keep civilization from destroying itself. - Albert Camus
Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart. ~William Wordsworth
Easy reading is damn hard writing. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne
Fiction is the truth inside the lie. - Stephen King
The difference between fiction and reality? Fiction has to make sense. - Tom Clancy
Anybody can make history. Only a great man can write it. - Oscar Wilde
After three long weeks of radioless Wednesday nights, I get to do a show again next week! Thanks to the always sparkling and loverly Mrs. Deedeess for taking the reins while I was away. She is a gem!
Our topic this time is going to be "the written word," paying tribute to the people who sit and create the books, movies and songs that resonate in our minds long after we have experienced them. Think of the words that continue to haunt your brain long after you have heard/read them. Whether it be a poem, a song or a quote from a movie, somebody at some point sat in front of a blank sheet of paper and came up with it to make you think about something or reveal some kind of human truth to you. Tell us about your favorites. Feel free to recite your favorite poem or quote or even a joke that is particularly well constructed.
In case you all forgot the procedure, you record yourself on an mp3 file and ship it off to me at thestevesmithshow@gmail.com and I will share it with our radio family next Wednesday night at 11pm UK time. By the way, this will be back to my "normal" time in the US, as the daylight savings time takes affect this week in Europe.
