Chick Flicks Empty Re: Chick Flicks

'scuse me ladies...mind if I join the conversation?

I LOVE a good chick flick! However...the guy part of me (use your imagination) cannot tolerate a bad chick flick.

Moonstruck
Terms of Endearment
Places in the Heart (I like it...I really like it!!!)
Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean
Hannah and Her Sisters
Crimes of the Heart

I guess a chick flick would be defined by most guys as any movie in which the story's main focus is on a female character. Including but not limited to movies about sisters, movies that have the woman's name in the title (Norma Rae, Annie Hall, The Rose) and as my list shows...any movie that has the word heart in the title!

Actually most of my favorite movies are chick flicks as it would be movies with an extremely strong female lead. I.E. any Streisand film, any Meryl Streep film, any Kathy Bates film....

Okay so I'm a sucker for chick flicks too..

I think one of the ultimate chick flicks would be The Way We Were, isn't it?

A few of my favorites that come to mind are the following, even though I have a lot more but just can't think of them right now..

Save the last dance
The Evening Star (follow up of Terms of Endearment!)
You've got Mail (I know, I know..)
In Her Shoes
The Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood

Steve, I haven't watched all of Norma Rae, just the first half an hour or so, but I wouldn't consider it a chick flick.. is it really?

I guess it depends on your definition of the term, Liv. I think a lot of men classify any film with a strong female lead as a chick flick. But I think for most women, it has more to do with romance!

I know, when I was writing my list I kept thinking of all these romantic films, and I agree that chick flick doesn't exactly translate into romance. But yeah by the male definition Norma Rae must be a chick flick. Wink

I think a movie that makes you cry is a chick flick...who didn't cry like a baby at the end of Titanic?? I know I did and the whole theater did!
